Taking the Schmaltz Out of Chopped Liver

Earliest recognition of chicken livers: My grandfather is shoving the chopped concoction, heaped on a matzoh, in my face and insisting I try it. Not happening. Next, as he's piling the mess into his own mouth, bits of brown mush are spilling onto the floor. Gross! From then on, I treated it like, well, chopped liver.
